I have something NEW to share today, and I think this one is going to be so much fun!
If you’ve been crafting with me for a while, you probably already know that I LOVE card sketches. A sketch gives me somewhere to start, but it doesn’t tell me exactly what I have to create. It gets the ideas flowing—and before long, I’m changing papers, colors, shapes and little details to make the card completely my own.
And that is how Sketching Thursdays with Joy was born! 🦄✏️
Sketching Thursdays with Joy #1
Each Thursday, I’ll be sharing a card sketch that you can save and use whenever you need a little creative inspiration.
And here’s the most important thing I want you to remember:
A sketch is a starting point, not a set of rules.
Turn it. Flip it. Change the circles to squares. Add a layer. Take one away. Use stamped images, die cuts or punches. Grab a Designer Series Paper you’ve been saving for “someday.”
Just let the sketch feed your creativity!
For Sketch #1, I used the adorable Cutest Crew with a beautiful floral Designer Series Paper…Brushed with Beauty. I love the combination of those sweet little dogs with the flowers!
The four circles gave me the perfect place to feature the Cutest Crew images without letting them get lost against that gorgeous patterned paper.
And, of course, I couldn’t leave the inside plain!
I carried some of the same elements from the front into the inside with coordinating paper, circles and more of those adorable little dogs. It’s a simple detail, but it makes the whole card feel finished.
